Steve Harvey has found in himself on the receiving end of yet another lawsuit. According to TMZ, a former guest on his talk show of the same name is suing the 61-year-old comedian. The plaintiff, Dominique Collier, asserts that Harvey and the show’s production company made her look like an overly sexual single mother who desperately needed a makeover. Collier feels the segment was exaggerated, staged, and emotionally damaging.
According to the suit, the woman was invited on the show after she replied to a casting call for ‘single professional women who like to show off their looks.’ Producers allegedly told Collier that the episode would only spotlight her life as a single mom who worked as a fitness model — which is all true; but, Collier claims that the episode that they aired was much different, and much more embarrassing, than what she was told.
TMZ says Collier showed up to the set in 2016 wearing a plain long-sleeve blouse and a pencil skirt. Producers told her that she needed to switch clothes and was handed a form-fitting outfit that revealed more skin. But, Collier says that wasn’t the worst part.
After she changed clothes, she was allegedly brought on stage and faced derogatory comments from the crowd. Collier says the audience was asked to rate her by raising signs with harsh labels, like ‘slut,’ ‘whore,’ and ‘ratchet.’ Collier said the show removed the ‘audience poll’ from the segment after she sent them a cease-and-desist; but, she claims that the experience was so humiliating that she began crying backstage. Collier was reportedly crying when Harvey came to her on the set to give her back her old clothes.
Collier says the experience felt like sexual harassment. For that reason she’s taking legal action against the talk show host, Endemol Shine, and NBC for at least $2 million.
