San Diego, CA — On Sunday afternoon, Facebook user Angel Nunez captured footage of San Diego police taking a man into custody outside of his workplace. While details surrounding the arrest are scarce, it did not look like it was handled very well.

From the beginning of the video, the man is on the ground in handcuffs with a police dog tightly gripping his forearm. An officer tries to physically pull the dog off for almost a full minute before it finally let go. During the struggle, other officers come over to pin the man’s legs down.

It’s unclear why the officers did not use a command word to call the dog off the suspect, as one might expect a trained police dog to be able to do. Once the dog is removed,
the man appears to have suffered deep bite wounds on his left forearm.

More to come as information becomes available.

UPDATE: Angel Nunez also posted this video showing what happened right before the K-9 took the suspect to the ground.

HE DIDN’T CALL THE DOG OFF BECAUSE HE DIDN’T WANT TO!! HE WAS ON A POWER TRIP!! HE WANTED TO FULFILL HIS DUTY AS A “STATE SPONSORED TERRORIST” COWARD!!

  • blackalaureate

call the police department to complain

    619-531-2900

    • ooo ooo ooo they’re MAAAAD as hell . saying this is an ‘internal line’ after saying it’s an ’emergency line’ . then i was threatened for ‘calling repeatedly’ when i had asked to talk to commanding officer and been hung up on . then commanding officer bitched that i had been ‘calling repeatedly’ even though i hadn’t . they’re not gonna like what’s coming their way …

      • blackalaureate

they were surprised to get a call, but it’s public. it’s right there on the sdpd website.

        • i guess, then, they’ll be even more surprised when they get hundreds and maybe thousands of calls!

          • Emily Chandler

yea that’s the wrong number, its 619-531-2000 😐

    • chiquita

I DID HE SAID I WASN’T SUPPOSE TO BE CALLING THAT NUMBER. IT’S FOR EMERGENCY ONLY AND THE GIRL WHO POSTED IT WASN’T SUPPOSE TO. LOL

      • blackalaureate

first off thank you for calling sdpd. the number isn’t for emergencies…it’s right on their website under media/public info.

        • Emily Chandler

the non emergency contact number is actually 619-531-2000

    • Debbie Relyea

      Because they are assholes
They wonder why they have so many people disrespect them

  • Ni Coo

The officer was chocking the K-9 to force him to release… the guy should not have taunted the dog. He deserved it.

    • CATHY OLIVAS

Ni Coo’ HOW DO YOU MAKE IT IN THE WORLD?
YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE NO CLUE HOW CRAP IS SUPPOSE WORK.
SOMEDAY MAYBE YOU’LL BE LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE IN THAT SITUATION, AND HOPEFULLY THE SAME THING WILL HAPPEN TO YOU, THEN YOU CAN THINK BACK TO YOUR IGNORANT COMMENT ABOUT THE GUY BEING ATTACKED IN THIS VIDEO, AND THINK TO YOURSELF WHAT AN IDIOT YOU REALLY ARE!

      • Ni Coo

How do I make it in the world???? First off… I don’t taunt police dogs. Second I don’t break the law… 3rd I breathe.

        • Christy Edmonds Ray

          He didn’t break any law….

          • Chad Gainor

New in 2017, random police attacks against innocent civilians who aren’t doing anything wrong.

          • Christy Edmonds Ray

Ok dumbass…know they whole story…they had the wrong guy…you know because all black guys look alike…fucking wanker

          • Chad Gainor

Shut your fucking mouth. Read three articles, didn’t see any background info, going on what I’ve seen thus far. Link next time; be useful.

    • Mon

Even if the guy taunted the dog, it should have released him once he went down the ground and was handcuffed. The officer had zero control of the animal which means the dog wasn’t properly trained or it was just an aggressive animal to begin with.

      • Ni Coo

No… he had control… the dog released right? kk end of story. Dont taunt police dogs.

        • Mon

No, he didn’t. He literally pulled the dog up in the air to get him to release the guys arm. K end of story.

          • Christy Edmonds Ray

Because he had no clue how to stop the crazy dog

        • Christy Edmonds Ray

They train k9 dogs at the end of my street for police all over the states….you should come watch, it is amazing that with one word a dog will stop attacking and sit and let the cop take care of the rest, but you wouldn’t know that….your too busy knowing everything else

        • blackalaureate

police dogs are extremely focused and trained. they don’t respond to taunts or commands from outsiders. they live with their partners for years before they even go out in the field. partners know these dogs inside and out. it’s not like a normal dog that gets mad if you make faces at it. it is professionally trained.

          • Alquita Sherraine Dent

Exactly. So do you really think the officer was “trying” to get the dog of the guy? He knows his dog / partner & not once did I hear a command to get the dog to stop.

          • blackalaureate

            i completely agree with you.

    • Christy Edmonds Ray

You do not choke a k9 for him to release…I never heard a command towards the dog only the innocent man being attacked….choking the dog mad him more aggeessive, this officer clearly wasn’t trained with this dog

      • Brett Garland

And “clearly”, what K9 academy did you attend??

        • Christy Edmonds Ray

There is one at the end if my street, 5 houses down on 14 acres of land….train police dogs for police departments all over the states…go there regularly to watch. So what dumbass academy did you go to?

          • Christy Edmonds Ray

Also both my parents were cops…

          • Christy Edmonds Ray

Had my dog trained there…not to be a police dog but obedience training. …but met many of cops there with their dogs. Have seen it first hand that it only takes 1 word. …my dog as well 1 word and she comes and sits at my feet…I do not have to say it twice

          • blackalaureate

            EXACTLY!!!

          • Brett Garland

You are a funny one. You just a little neighborhood lookie-loo and you think that qualifies you. Being that you refer to academies as dumbass Academies that really doesn’t say much for the one that’s up the street from you that you have not attended nor know anything about actually.

        • blackalaureate

i’ve seen demos of K-9s and they are not choked or grabbed. the dogs are given verbal commands that they instantly respond to. a dog that doesn’t respond puts everyone’s life in danger, including the cops.

    • Johnie Davis Thomas

Ad you’re an ass I hope a dog bite you in the ass you racist prick…

  • Priscilla Mortensen

I hope this man sues or something this is B.S. The dog should of let the hell go. He was down cuffed and defenseless this is just bull.

    • Brett Garland

He’s down because the dog took him down, then he was cuffed. BTNO Lied. The dog did not attack a “Cuffed” man. And, This so called man was not outside his workplace. I don’t know of anyplace you can work basically naked other than dirty shorts hanging off your ass, no shoes or socks. Stop spreading fake news and lies.

      • thabz

Stfu you ignorant fool , are you blind? That man went on the ground himself (the dog didn’t not take down) based on the first video , and the dog continued to bite him even when he was on the ground and cuffed. And are you so stupid that you can’t read? The article clearly says the person who was recording it was outside their workplace (not the victim’s workplace). Next time read the article first you ignorant fool….. YOU ARE THE FAKE NEWS

        • Brett Garland

I was referring to the headlines” ignorant fool”. Lol

        • Christy Edmonds Ray

The man went to the ground because the dumbass officer told him to so this man was complying like everyone’s says to do with every other video…but of course the ones defending the cops actions wouldn’t see it that way….

      • Mav

A serious question. If the position you take is so honorable and true, why do you lie about the events?

        • Brett Garland

Did the dog simply attack a cuffed man laying in the street?? No. Was this just someone outside of his workplace?? No.. Did he taunt and raise a hand at the dog prior to being taken down?? Yes. Now, Do you and I know what actually occurred prior to the takedown and why he was in contact with the police to begin with, other than what’s posted on that video. No…

          • anthonydejesus

Taunt lol he was surrendering get your vision checked smart guy.

          • Brett Garland

Fair enough ,Ok, let me review again with better audio an see.

          • anthonydejesus

“Show me your hands” and he did.

          • Mav

What you just said can be simplified by, “two wrongs make a right.”

All the things you say we don’t know will never justify a handcuffed man, on his stomach, blood clearly present, his legs having the weight of two officers and yet the dog was still permitted to bite. If you see more than that, then I question your humanity .

          • Brett Garland

You need to read this too: We Blacks as a people(some whites simply jump on any bandwagon to make yourself feel good after years of injustice) have always been real quick to jump to conclusions and follow false narratives and fake news stories utilized by the media to formulate opinion and for financial gain and ratings. A perfect example of this is the hands up don’t shoot BS that was pushed by the media and the black lives matter group. A situation that was totally based on lies and fake news. This also causes a big disruption and dismay where my fellow black citizens are concerned when juries, which also consists of black people, exonerate some of these officers because they’re exposed to the truth, facts the entire videos(not just a small part of a one-sided clip) and other videos of different perspectives of a situation. Don’t just show me a couple of seconds of a video and cry foul. Show me the whole video and what led up to a situation. The media and individuals on Facebook and other outlets such as YouTube always want to show only what they want you to see or know to formulate an opinion. Give me all the goods

          • Mav

First and foremost, there is no such thing as ‘we blacks’. That alone takes away from the credibility of the author, and you. Secondly, the attempt to dismiss the video as just a small portion of what happened is the equivalent, as I said before, of two wrongs making a right. It doesn’t matter what happened before. The threat to the officer or anyone else was not present. Based on your position, retaliation of any kind should be permitted in any area of life. A girl steals another girl’s boyfriend and now the first first has the right to push her down the stairs. Ludicrous!!! I feared for my life, so I have the right to shoot someone who poses no threat to me. Lastly, ‘we blacks’ have been claiming police brutality for decades, if not centuries. The videos are nothing but proof of what ‘we blacks’ have been saying is true. Just because an officer isn’t found guilty is a court of law doesn’t make him innocent. If you don’t believe me, just ask the police officers who have been ‘black balled’ by their fellow officers for blowing the whistle on corruption.

          • Brett Garland

I’m well aware or the truths vs myths as you indicate. Your statement is about as valid as you are hiding behind your anonymity here, posting while hiding behind a moniker and a frameless profile picture. However, you’re in no position to preach to me about fine lines and issues regarding black police officers and their departments being that I’ve lived an entire career in those shoes. Have you? I didn’t think so. As I stated, give me all the goods not just an edited portion so I can make an educated decision and take appropriate action. I’ll be the first one to call foul if that’s the way “all” the evidence lies.

          • blackalaureate

you’re a fraud. you just created this account today.

            you’re a shill from SDPD.

          • Brett Garland

Wow, another idiot. Lol I’m the fraud while you hide behind a moniker and a frameless profile picture here??? You don’t see me hiding!!! You can bring me up and check out my profile anytime on fb. You can continue to take the low-slung cowardly rout and hide if you choose to. Typical with most.

          • blackalaureate

you made a disqus account specifically for this incident.

          • Brett Garland

Be that true or not ,there’s no legitimacy in the BS statement that you made regarding the validity of my status. Unlike you, hiding, I’m up front here to be seen standing behind everything that I put forward. Not just a “Casper” running his mouth. . And to set the record straight, I was brought to this site by a link in Facebook while trying to find complete versions of the video. I didn’t create an account I simply entered through Facebook sign in. Even so, I’m still not hiding.

          • Mav

Focusing on my identity and not on the topic speaks volumes.

I never mentioned black police officers. Nor did I mention truth vs myth.

You are clearly in your feelings. You can ask for all the goods you wish. And you can defend your brothers in blue as much as you like. I don’t need to walk in the shoes of the men in blue to know the system isnt always designed to get the truth. And I don’t need to wear a uniform to know that the truth was never enough of a reason why someone was convicted or set free.

          • Brett Garland

identity is everything. People make all kind of remarks negative and positive and hide behind anonymity. Stand on your own two feet show your face when you speak.
No defense here of the boys in blue. All I’m saying is show me all of the goods ,don’t show me anything edited and expect me to make a decision or offer an opinion about it. I’m like the little old lady in the commercial. “Where’s the beef”!!

          • Mav

Identity is not everything. Am agent of the system would say that but I don’t know how much more I can disagree with that. The frequency that officers ask for ID, with or without reason, is a clear indication that too much emphasis is placed on it. Like the old days when blacks had to show papers in order just to just walk freely in the streets of their own neighborhoods. I’m sure Malcolm, Martin and the black panthers would have preferred to be anonymous.

Please tell everyone exactly what circumstances could have occurred before the video to justify a handcuffed man, on his stomach, blood clearly present, his legs having the weight of two officers and yet the dog was still permitted to bite.

          • Brett Garland

Martin, Malcom and the BPs refused to be anonymous. That’s what made them so effective and Powerful, considering the technological base they had to contend with back then. Unlike the Cowardly and balless likes of the KKK, who hid constanty and refused to show their faces while running their mouths 100 miles a second.

All good here. Good dialogue is a positive thing. Have a great night.

          • Johnie Davis Thomas

So my question to you, are you justifying the dog ripping into the man arm although he is face down and CUFFED?

          • Brett Garland

No Johnie, definitely not. That wasn’t my point at all. The officer at that point clearly did not have the appropriate command of his K-9. Once those Cuffs are applied, suspect is non-combative, applied force must be reduced and reasonable. Glad to see someone facing up👍

          • Meinsheizer

Perpetrators can still try to run even I handcuffs. And if we are making assumptions, which it seems we are, then why is the man in question in different spots in the 2 videos? I submit to you he tried to run south handcuffs on. But now I’m no better than you because that’s an assumption with no evidence. See how that works?

          • whitecat31

When you speak for “We blacks” you claim to speak for all blacks. You then claim all blacks including yourself have a particular trait. In this case you are saying all blacks lack critical thinking skills that you lack. Racism defined: The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. Congratulations you fit the definition of a racist against your own race.

          • Brett Garland

Wow, another perplexed, American of pusillanimous character (as indicated by you depiction of our flag), hiding behind a moniker and a photoless profile picture frame, while attempting to interweave negativism in regsrds to my statement. You, cowardly one, actually merit no comment from me. But I will say this….twist my meaning if you want.
And, dont be such a weak puss!! Show your face and represent yourself like the strong American you envy and despise while at the same time aspiring to be.

      • Rob Sheinkopf

Calling everything you don’t like or agree with “Fake News” is laughable… and doesn’t dismiss the outrageous police brutality that is obvious by watching this video (thank you Angel Nunez). They are giving every cop a bad name, and there are good ones out there, just not these cops. Police dogs are well trained, and their police handlers should be in better control. I suspect if this were a white guy on the ground, they would have tried harder to control their dog. I don’t know or care if the suspect committed a crime, he didn’t deserve this kind of treatment. I hope the San Diego Police take action action these bad cops. There’s nothing Fake about this police brutality, but thanks to Trump we now see that calling such incidents “fake news” is a way to dismiss crimes like these.

        • Brett Garland

The DOJ under Loretta Lynch was itself bullshit. Have you forgotten the tarmac meeting with Clinton? Speak about collusion.

          • blackalaureate

brett garland….you are not a black person.

          • Myall

            lol

          • Meinsheizer

Holy common sense Batman. Praise you good sir for knowing a piece of bait when you see it. I am all for people going to jail if the committed a crime, this includes cops, but let’s get all the evidence and facts before we pass judgement on a 1:24 second video. If they are guilty then so be it let them face the punishment, but we need the whole story.

          • Ann Knickerbocker

All the goods is this: the fricking officer had no control over his K9. That is unwarranted, against K9 use policy, and the dog or officer needs to be retrained, retired, or fired. We had adopted a retired K9 that was trained better than this.

        • Roger De Backer

Which police officer was outrageously brutal. Please enlighten me, because I couldn’t see one in the video.

  • Thandisizwe Every-Twentyeighth

where is Angel Nunez? PLEASE tell me, was that a white dude that stepped in front of him, to block him from recording, when the cops told him to get back????

    • Mon

Yea, that was annoying. I would have just lifted up my phone over him.

  • Timmie Lee

Where’s the rest of the video? Why do we never see what happened to get the this point?

    • watch_me_now

really??? even when we see the entire incident it doesn’t change anything. i dont really understand the point of your comment

      • Mav

Timmie wants to be able to justify treating the suspect as less than human.

    • Brett Garland

      Thank you! My point exactly.

      • rlw21

        shut up, coon

        • Brett Garland

“Coon”?? Lol. So antiquated and a clear indication of your intellect. Is that the best that you have? Lol. You have to do a whole lot better than that to get up underneath my skin. Lol

  • alvinb4th

They are just allowing these dogs to go off. No control, you’re suppose to have a command if that’s not working you need to put him down to protect the life and safety of the person.

  • Ferdinand Berkhof

‘Protect and Serve’. Who’s going to protect black people in America from the cops?

  • Ron Lent

Missing part would be……what was the guy doing to put himself in this position? Show it all or none at all.

    • Mav

      did you see both videos?

      • Christy Edmonds Ray

Did you see where it wasn’t him they were after…

    • Kaly

Why does it matter? If you’re cuffed and on the ground and a police dog is still ripping into your arm and won’t let go, that’s a serious issue! That’s what is disturbing about his video. Not that he got arrested, he totally could of deserved to of gotten arrested. It’s what happened after the fact that’s upsetting.

    • Christy Edmonds Ray

He did nothing. ..they had the wrong guy

  • Keith Moore

Does anyone know the victims name and how to get in touch with him?. Im interested in getting a go fund me account for him. Thanks in advance

  • Tony Ratagick

Back when I was in the Army – I was on a training exercise. One of my tasks was to infiltrate and get myself captured so they could evaluate how the unit handled prisoners, both at rest and during stress.
So after I’m “captured” , the MP has me secured and his K-9 is with him guarding me when the “Stress Test” phase begins – the rest of my team attacked the perimeter.
The MP gave a command to his K-9 to guard me – and took off to meet the threat – before he left he told me “Hey man, just remember this: The dog doesn’t know this is a game. Dont move. Really.”
Point is, I wasn’t stupid enough to test him. The guy in this video apparently is.

    • Kaly

What on earth are you talking about? The guy was cuffed and on the ground! You would be screaming and scared too if we were cuffed and a dog was ripping into your arm and not letting go!

    • Christy Edmonds Ray

The only thing the man was screaming he was uncomfortable

  • Kaly

I hate all these people asking “well what did he do to get arrested in the first place?” Why does it matter? If you’re cuffed and on the ground and a police dog is still ripping into your arm and won’t let go, that’s a serious issue! That’s what is disturbing about his video. Not that he got arrested, he totally could of deserved to of gotten arrested. We don’t know. It’s what happened after the fact that’s upsetting.

    • Thank you , ma’am, for your Humanity.

    • FallenHeros

It’s also fair to say don’t run from the law and they won’t have to chase you with dogs. It is also fair to say don’t use methamphetamines and attack two kids, beat one unconsious then run from the law. It is also fair to say if this man did not do those things he would not have been bit by a police dog trained to take down thugs. But what the fuck do I know…

      • Austin C. Rick

…apparently not too much, in terms of this man’s rights under the constitution of the United States.

        • Roger De Backer

What rights are that? he right to resist arrest? The right to defy the law that doesn’t suit your liking?

          • Emily Chandler

well considering the rest of the video actually shows this man non resisting arrest at all.. I think you should do a little more research before spouting off about something you clearly have zero knowledge on. And also whether or not he was or wasn’t does not give justifiable cause to have an untrained police officer handling a poorly trained dog.

          • FallenHeros

If he beat your daughter unconscious would you feel the same way?

      • Johnie Davis Thomas

Unless the kids were yours and you were there then you don’t know shit so quit fucking assuming that your ass know..

        • Nicole Bright

Doesn’t matter what he did to get arrested. It is never ok to let a dog torture a person after they’re cuffed and on the ground. No cruel and unusually punishment. It’s the 8th amendment. It’s crazy so many Americans dont realize this and think if black people commit a crime, or are suspected of a crime, they don’t deserve to be treated like human beings.

          • FallenHeros

Unless he beat your daughter half to death minutes before the cops found him than you would be fine with this…

          • Johnie Davis Thomas

I agree it doesn’t matter, I don’t believe I asked what he did.

        • FallenHeros

They were 16 and 15 years old. He plead guilty and is serving time. I am not assuming anything. This thug plead guilty…..maybe you should shut your mouth to what you have no understanding of what happened.

      • Tothe

Too many non-crimes are declared arbitrarily “illegal,” and there are too many cases of blatant police brutality especially against minority populations for be to give the cops the benefit of the doubt. besides, the old adage “innocent until proven guilty” exists for a very good reason. It is the same as the principle in logic that the one making the claim bears the burden of proof. The cops need to justify the arrest every time.

      • Terrance Powell

You don’t know shut you coward ass bitch

        • FallenHeros

This guy is in jail for assaulting 2 girls, one which he beat unconscious. I do know, it is public record.

    • Roger De Backer

What is upsetting about the video is the comment by Angel Nunez on Facebook ” …and wait for the most racist people on Facebook to justify it telling me this man was resisting arrest”. What has this video to do with racism in the first place. Perhaps because the perpetrator is colored? Apparently, it is Angel Nunez who is the true racist, that doesn’t want to acknowledge, that just maybe their was a good reason for the arrest and a good reason for using the dog during the arrest, which is not standard practice and normally only used when indeed somebody IS resisting arrest. So, no matter that the officer and the dog should have been better trained, the dog would most likely not have been used had the perpetrator NOT resisted arrest. Am I a racist now? OK, go ahead, I don’t care.

These dogs and their handlers are supposed to be fully trained before they’re used in the field, clearly this is not the case here. Other video shows the cop struggling to get the dog off the man and the dog not cooperating.

That dog needs to be destroyed and the Cop reprimanded

Law suit for sure…But some heads must be rolled first

The perp was obviously resisting arrest and since the dog can’t be accused of racism it decided enough was enough and that it was time to bite the crap out of this moron. Law-abiding citizens are all applauding this dog. We need more dogs to do this and to be rewarded for it.

Me not knowing all the facts but seeing clearly that the dog WAS NOT controlled by it’s commanding partner, it was very obviously fixated on gaining control on the perp and bringing him down – and then some. Presumably by the fact that his partner COULDN’T control her/him and wasn’t trained properly in HOW to control him, so the dog became more agitated and aggressive in it’s actions, waiting for the correct command to release and stand back. So seeing that, the two other officers possibly confused the situation, heard the initial officer struggling (not knowing with what right off) and used their short intellect to assume the perp was causing problems so “rushed” over to save the day and pin the perp even further. Bad move on top of bad move. Whatever the whole incident was about, from the moment that man ceases resisting and the dog continues it’s attack, that is all we can judge from this video, and it looks to me plain as day that a serious amount of training is lacking in this police force in more than one area.
